The whole book reads on this site. Reading it asks for nothing. This page lists everything the site collects.
What is collected
- Your email address, only if you leave one. The last section of the home page has one optional field, shown until the book is in the stores. An address left there is used for one thing: news about this book, such as the day the hard copy is out or a new edition. The first email only asks you to confirm the address, and no news is sent until you do.
- Your answers to the research questionnaire, only if you send them. The questionnaire at /research/ asks for no name and no employer, and every question is optional. Your answers are kept in your browser while you fill it in and are sent when you reach the checkpoint and when you finish. They are stored with when you started and finished, how far you went and where you came from (this site, a newsletter, social media or directly), and never with your network address. Findings are only reported in groups of ten or more. Once sent, they cannot be picked out again, so they stay in the research.
- An email address at the end of the questionnaire, only if you leave one. It is stored apart from your answers, with nothing that joins the two, beside only what you asked for (the results, an interview, notes for the next round) and the day you left it. It is used only for that.
- Page statistics. Google Analytics counts visits and downloads. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland its storage is switched off by default, so it sets no cookie on your device there.
- Nothing more from the thesis game. The game at /play/ runs in your browser. Your best scores are kept on your own device and are never sent anywhere. The page statistics record that a round started and that it finished, and for which decision.
- A hash of your network address, only when you leave an email or send answers. It limits how many sign-ups and answers one network can send. The hash is salted, the raw address is never stored, and for the questionnaire it is kept apart from your answers and forgotten after a day.
Who processes it
- Vercel hosts the site and answers every request.
- Turso stores the list of email addresses and the questionnaire answers.
- Resend sends the emails.
- Google provides the page statistics.
Nobody else receives any of it, and none of it is sold.
